Posing can be stressful to think about. Most couples have never been in front of a professional camera before and want help and guidance. Making sure you look through your photographer’s portfolio on their website, social media and client galleries is very important. Make sure their style of posing matches the way you want to look and feel when you are in front of the camera.
Below are my top 4 posing tips for creating those romantic & effortless images!
1) Keep those heads together!
Whether you are looking at the camera or at each other keeping your heads close together or touching creates instant intimacy and romantic feel. You guys are getting married or it’s your wedding day. Showing that unbreakable bond and love is all about being as close as possible physically in images.
2) Bend those joints!!!
It’s really important not to look or feel still when you are in front of the camera. The best way to avoid this is by bending your joints slightly. Bend those elbows, your front knees even your chin and neck need a slight tilt. This creates movement and flows to your bodies in the images allowing you to look more natural and comfortable.
You can see above the elbows are bent and they are keeping those heads close together or touching in some way! Don’t be afraid to just be playful and move around. Have fun with it and just
focus on each other rather than the camera!
3) Do something with your hands!!
Having free-floating hands makes for awkward pictures! You want to always be doing something with your hands so your images look fluid and natural. Keep one set with hands and arms around each other’s waist. For the ladies, put your front hand on his chest, chin, jawline, or bicep. For the guys place one hand in your pocket (preferably with on thumb out) or on her jaw line or her waist. When in doubt HOLD HANDS!
4) Don’t focus on the camera!
Yes, you will both be looking at the camera for some of your images. However, for the most part, your focus should be more on each other. Always remember the most authentic and dreamy images are the ones where the couple is super focused on each other and embracing one another. Not looking and smiling at the camera. Just keep your eyes in the direction of your partner unless instructed otherwise. Catching those little looks laughs, and gazes between you two are the key images you want for your photos!
Final words of wisdom…
Trust your photographer!! Trust that they will guide you, pose you and move you during your engagement session and or wedding. ey know what looks good and what movement’s compliment you both. You hired them for a reason!!! Trust that they will help make your images magical and authentic. They got you!
